Always use the parking brake. If it’s a manual, always leave it in gear AND use the parking brake.

I got out without pulling the parking brake today. Luckily I only rolled about 5 feet

Can’t you just leave the car in gear?? Living in what is arguably the safest country in the world, I actually leave the keys on the ignition when I go somewhere (I take them out when I park it for the night, but that’s about it...), so owning an automatic would not stop me from missing “P” and shutting down the car in neutral instead :)

Unfortunate. If it rolled back straight it could have just beached itself when the rear wheels went over the edge.
